Austin’s Michelin Star Restaurants

Austin’s Michelin Star Restaurants

When Michelin finally arrived in Texas for the very first time, we were honestly curious to see how Austin would show up. If you live here, you already know how special our dining scene is. There is nothing cookie cutter about this city. The mix of creativity, craftsmanship, and local pride is part of what makes Austin feel like home.

Seeing seven Austin restaurants earn stars felt like a moment. It was well deserved and it told the rest of the country what we already knew. Austin chefs are doing something different here. If you are planning a special night, showing off the city to visitors, or celebrating something important, here is our personal guide to every Michelin-starred restaurant in Austin. We included the signature dish at each spot, plus what we think makes them worth your time.

1. Barley Swine

North Austin | 6555 Burnet Rd #400 | $$$$ | Seasonal New American tasting menu

Barley Swine feels like the essence of Austin dining. It is creative without being pretentious and full of ingredients that come straight from Texas farms. Every time we go, the menu looks a little different which is part of the fun.

Signature dish
Foie gras mousse with fermented blueberries and brioche. This dish shows off Chef Bryce Gilmore’s ability to combine richness, acidity, and perfect textures in one bite.

Why we love it
The courses arrive like little surprises. The flavors are modern, the plating is beautiful, and the energy is relaxed. You feel cared for, not rushed. It is one of our top picks for date night or any night when you want to slow down and enjoy a thoughtful dining experience.

2. Craft Omakase

North Austin | 7301 Burnet Rd | $$$$ | Japanese omakase

Twenty two courses of precision, intention, and unbelievable technique.

Craft Omakase is an experience that feels almost meditative. The room is small and quiet. All eyes are on the chef as each piece of nigiri is assembled with exact movements. Austin has great sushi, but this is the most detail forward meal in the city.

Signature dish
Sea perch sushi with yuzu zest. The balance of citrus and perfectly seasoned rice is the reason people talk about this omakase the way they do.

Why we love it
There is a sense of ceremony to the whole evening. The pacing is slow and intentional. You leave with a real appreciation for craft and discipline. It is one of the best special occasion restaurants in town.

3. Hestia

Downtown Austin | 607 W 3rd St | $$$$ | Modern American cooked over live fire

Fire driven dining with a contemporary feel.

Hestia centers everything around a massive open hearth. You can feel the warmth of the fire from your table and it shapes the flavor of almost every dish. There is something primal and modern happening here at the same time.

Signature dish
The hearth roasted royal red shrimp served with a punchy fermented chile butter. It is smoky, rich, and layered with flavor.

Why we love it
From the cocktails to the pacing to the design, the whole experience feels intentional. It is elegant but still very Austin. If you like dramatic flavors and a gorgeous space, this is the one.

4. Olamaie

Central Austin | 1610 San Antonio St | $$$ | Elevated Southern cuisine

Southern food with grace and refinement.

Olamaie is a place we recommend to clients all the time when they want something that feels like Texas but still elevated. The hospitality is warm and the food is grounded in tradition without feeling heavy.

Signature dish
The Off Menu Biscuits. People talk about them for a reason. They arrive warm, flaky, and served with honey butter that tastes like pure comfort.

Why we love it
The food is familiar but elevated. Vegetables are treated with just as much love as the proteins. It is a place that feels both celebratory and deeply comforting which is a rare balance.

5. InterStellar BBQ

Northwest Austin | 12233 N FM 620 | $$ | Texas barbecue executed with the precision of fine dining.

InterStellar BBQ getting a Michelin star makes perfect sense if you have ever tasted their brisket. The bark, the smoke, and the tenderness are on another level. The food is classic Texas barbecue but prepared with an attention to detail you do not find everywhere.

Signature dish
The peach tea glazed pork belly. It is sweet, smoky, and melts the moment you bite into it.

Why we love it
It still feels like a casual barbecue spot which is part of the charm. You get world class food without the formality. Bring friends, order everything, and prepare to be impressed by the technique.

6. la Barbecue

East Austin | 2401 E Cesar Chavez St | $$ | East Austin Texas barbecue with bold personality.

la Barbecue has been an Austin favorite for years and now it has the star to prove it. The brisket is tender, the ribs fall apart perfectly, and the smoke profile is deep and rich. You can taste the care that goes into every tray.

Signature dish
The beef rib. It is massive, incredibly juicy, and easily one of the best examples of Texas barbecue in Austin.

Why we love it
The atmosphere is lively and social. It feels like East Austin at its best. If you want a true Texas barbecue experience without sacrificing quality, start here.

7. LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue

South Austin | 5621 Emerald Forest Dr | $$ | Creative, new-school Texas barbecue

Creative barbecue from one of Austin’s most loved teams.

LeRoy and Lewis has always been known for experimenting with technique and flavor. Their approach to barbecue is thoughtful and a little playful. It feels fresh and modern without losing the soul of Texas cooking.

Signature dish
The smoked beef cheeks. This is the dish that made people pay attention. They are incredibly tender and packed with flavor.

Why we love it
Nothing here feels generic. The specials rotate, the sides are creative, and the people behind the counter genuinely care about the food. If you want to taste the “new school” side of Austin barbecue, this is the one.

Why this matters for Austin

Austin being recognized by Michelin feels like a turning point. Our restaurant scene has grown into something truly dynamic and the world is paying attention. For us, it is another reason we love calling this city home. The creativity here shows up in everything from architecture to music to food and now some of our best chefs finally have stars to show for it.

Cheers!
